Frequently asked questions.
Plain answers to the questions families ask most.

What exactly is Succession Plan?
Succession Plan is a living plan for passing on your land, business, and legacy to your family. It helps you organize what you have, build the documents you need, coordinate your advisors, and keep everything current. It is not just a will generator. It is a complete, ongoing plan.
How is this different from LegalZoom or Trust & Will?
Those services generate a legal document and send you on your way. Succession Plan gives you a living plan that stays accurate, monitors for changes, and coordinates your professional advisors. It includes tools for fair distribution and state-specific execution. The document is important, but it is one piece of a much bigger picture.
Do I need an attorney if I use Succession Plan?
We strongly recommend it. Succession Plan helps you organize your information, generate documents, and keep everything current. A licensed attorney should review your plan. Our Complete and Concierge plans make it easy to invite your attorney to review your documents inside the platform.
Is this legally valid?
Every document follows your state or province's requirements. We guide you through every signing step the law requires. In Iowa, a will is always signed in person with two witnesses. We guide you through the exact steps. We never mark a document as complete unless it has been properly executed. This is information and document self-help. Legal review is provided by licensed, independent professionals.
How do I know my information is safe?
We use bank-level encryption (AES-256) for all data at rest and in transit. Your information is stored in secure data centers that follow SOC 2 standards. We never sell your data. You control who sees what. Every access is logged.
What if I already have a will, trust, or other documents?
Upload them. Our system reads each document and shows you a plain-English summary: who is named, what assets are covered, what roles are assigned, and what is missing or outdated. Your existing documents become the foundation of your plan.
I am not very comfortable with technology. Can I still use this?
Yes. We designed Succession Plan for people who feel that way. The text is large and easy to read. We ask one question at a time. Everything saves on its own. And there is a real person to call whenever you need help.
Can my children help me with this?
Yes. Many families work on succession planning together. You can invite a family member as a helper. They can see the plan and help you through the process. You keep full control. You decide who sees what and who can make changes.
How long does it take?
Plan on about 15 to 20 minutes to upload your existing documents and another 20 to 30 minutes for the first questions. From there, you work at your own pace. You can finish your plan in a week, or take a few months. There is no rush. Everything saves.
What if I need to stop and come back later?
Everything saves on its own. When you come back, you see exactly where you left off and a friendly summary of what is done and what is left.
Does Succession Plan work in my state or province?
We are building for families across the United States and Canada. We are preparing to serve families in Iowa, South Dakota, New York, Alberta, and Ontario. Each area opens when a licensed local attorney or lawyer has reviewed and signed off on that area's documents. Join the waitlist for your state or province, and we will let you know when it is ready. Minnesota is coming next after that.
What happens to my plan if I cancel?
Your documents are always yours. If you cancel, you keep full access to download every document you have completed. We never hold your family's documents hostage.
Can I use Succession Plan for a farm?
Yes. Succession Plan was built with farm families in mind. We include tools for tracking land, modeling fair distribution scenarios, and recording operational knowledge like who leases which fields and where the water shutoff is.
What is a plan-health score?
Your plan-health score is a simple view of where your plan stands. It shows what is complete, what needs your attention, and what is missing. When something changes, like a new grandchild or a law change our team flags, your score lets you know.
How does the concierge signing work?
On our Concierge plan in Iowa, we arrange for a commissioned notary and two qualified witnesses to come to your home. You sign your documents at your kitchen table. Each visit is $350. We handle all the scheduling.
What does living plan mean?
A traditional will or trust is a snapshot of one moment. A living plan stays current. It updates as your family grows, your assets change, and laws evolve. It watches for conflicts and prompts you when something needs attention. It is the difference between a photograph and a living, breathing family record.
Is my plan private?
Yes. You control who can see your plan and what they can see. You can let your attorney see everything but give your children access only after you pass. A real person on our team verifies before that access opens. Every access is logged. Your plan is never shared with anyone you have not invited.
How much does it cost?
You pay once to build your plan: $299 for Essential, $699 for Complete (best for farm and business families), or $1,950 for Concierge. Concierge adds attorney review, remote notarization for eligible documents, and in-home signing visits in Iowa at $350 per visit. A $1,000 in-person attorney visit is also available. Your first year is included. After that, a small yearly fee keeps your plan current: $99, $149, or $349. Every setup fee comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. You can start free: upload your documents and get a plain-English summary and gap report, no credit card needed.
